Welcome to Department of Sociology
The department of Sociology has the distinction of being the oldest centre of teaching and research in sociology in Marathwada region. In addition, it is the oldest Departmnet in the College level under the Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar University Aurnagabad. The Department was set up in 1960& PG course in 1966 with an eminent sociologist and well-known writer Prof. Sudha Kaldate as the first professor and Head. Over the last five decades the department has made pioneering and significant contributions to teaching and research in sociology in Marathwada region.
The Department has played a pioneering role in the promotion of social; sciences research in general and in the development of sociology in particular in major respects.
Firstly, in the span of over five decades, more than 45 Ph.D. and 20 M.Phil dissertations have been completed in the Department.
Secondly it initiated an ambitious Major Research project independently submitted to UGC .
Thirdly, it trained a fairly large number of talented students who were drawn from different parts of Maharashtra
Fourthly, department was started Certificate Course of Applied Sociology. The course has been designed for the students who are new and curious to know the discipline of Applied Sociology. This course introduces to basics of programme evaluation. To develop skills among the students for contribution to the reconstruction of rural institutions, rural development programmes in terms of planning.
