Sports stimulate the physical and mental growth of students. A person who regularly plays sports develops a healthy body, develops better body strength and better coordination. … Sports and games can be a great lesson in time management and they provide the spirit of competition that drives them to give extra effort.
The physical education & sports department was established in the year 1961 under the chairmanship of former Principal A. N. Chikhalikar along with Mr. Bhagatsing Rajurkar and Mrs. Sudhatai Kaldate. The physical education & sports department of Deogiri College is as old as the college. Although it was established in 1961, from 1970 the department has got regular sports teachers. The first three regular sports teachers Dr. Datta Pathrikar, Prof. Kishor Patil & Prof. Mrs. Ujawala Patil are the ex sports persons of the department.
Shiv Chhatrapati Awards:
Through the years the department has carved a name for itself in golden letters by achieving various kinds of medals & awards as well as winning twenty two Shiv Chhatrapati Awards awarded by govt. of Maharashtra. The College is very much proud of it.
The Strengths of Students:
The students of various faculties of our College are related to the sports department but through selection trials the players are selected for different types of games & sports events.
Participated Tournaments:
The players of physical education & sports department participated in various competitions such as Inter-collegiate tournament, Maharashtra state ‘Krida Mahotsav’ Inter-University Tournament, West zone Inter-university tournament, All India inter-university tournaments as well as the open competitions organized by various organizations at State level, National level and International level.
Incentives, Concessions, Cash Prizes:
The physical education & sports department provides advanced training and coaching to the players. Our institute provides traveling allowance, daily allowance/ local convince, sports equipments and sports uniforms to the players for the practices and tournaments. Those who are merit holders in various sports & games activities they are given cash prizes and concession in admission fees.
Infrastructure facilities:
The physical education & sports department is enriched with well equipped infrastructure having a large Play ground, Cricket, Football & Hockey play field, Volleyball court, Basketball court, Lawn tennis court, two Cricket practice nets, Multi gym, Multipurpose hall for Judo, Wrestling, Taekwondo and Table tennis etc.
Sports Training program and Tournaments Organized:
The department has organized 98 Various Sports and Games training program for college students. The department has also organized 11 various sports & games tournament during last five years. It includes Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University Inter-collegiate Basketball, Judo, Taekwondo, Cricket tournaments, M.S.P. Mandal’s Krida Mahotsav inter school tournaments and Dist level wrestling tournament.
Memorandum of Understanding (MOU):
For the advanced training, coaching and having the benefits of those facilities which are not available at Sports Department to the Players Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) has been signed by the Deogiri College, Aurangabad with Department of Sports, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, Aurangabad and Aurangabad District Wrestling Association
Working Staff :
The department is running properly having the staff of a director of physical education, Store in charge and a 4 fixed pay coaches lady coach, Gymnastics coach, Cricket coach and Gym Instructor.
